The power of prayer and the nature of miracles

For those of us who grew up with parents who believed in the spiritual dimension of life, it may be easier to understand than for those who were never introduced to that dimension of life.

Many speak of 'defining moments' in life. Have you ever wondered what one of your defining moment was?
One of mine dates back to when I was about 10. I grew up in France, in Alsace more precisely which is the region that is adjacent to the river Rhine, France's border with Germany. This region was invaded countless times over the course of history. In the 20th century, it was occupied by Germany during the World Wars. The second WW is the one my parents went through as teenagers. They were about 10 years old when it started and spend the next six years of their young life in fear and uncertainty of the future.

The story my mother told me when I was young is the following. During the war, Hitler's armies invaded our region. People living here had to use German currency, their children were taught their classes in school in High German. In short, freedom was taken away: freedom of speech, freedom of information (listening to the BBC was considered treason), freedom of travel...etc. There was still freedom of worship, the Mass, you guessed it, was said in Latin and German. Even God Himself had to be addressed in the occupying land's tongue.

At one point during the war, Hitler made the decision to have mass migration. The little village of 2,000 inhabitants was assigned to have all its occupants move to a village in Poland. Needless to say, the news was devastating. At that time, the priest who was the spiritual leader of the village asked everyone to go on their knees and pray. I can only imagine the prayers that were said during this desperate time. I don't remember how long it was till they got the news that the mass migration plan had been cancelled. This was an extraordinary experience of faith and redemption that had a great impact on me.

It is as if , at the moment I heard that story, I inherited the faith in prayer my mother had developed. I still have it, I really believe in its power. Deep, unwavering, faith and prayer, making our wishes known and asking for Divine guidance, together help us connect with a powerful dimension of life that is as real as the one our eyes can see .
Miracles are not performed on the physical plane, they are performed on the quantum level, the energy level, that is not visible to the human eye. That is the reason why they cannot be explained by science as it only deals with what can be see the third dimension and measured.
Miracles of healing in patients with terminal illness are called 'spontaneous healing'. One of such stories is told by Anita Moorjani in her own words:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjLouLHH-_I

I always wondered how miracles "work", how they happen, since I heard of the stories of Jesus performing miracles in his time and the stories of people going to Lourdes, in the South of France, to receive healing at the Grotto where Mother Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirou, 158 years ago. There is a beautiful American movie, The Song of Bernadette, that tells her story of faith and struggle.
So miracles happen on the quantum level, where matter is not solid but fluid, not with water but with energy.

Max Planck, a very famous German physicists who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918,  said:" As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of a force which brings the particle of an atom to vibration and holds this most minute solar system of the atom together. We must assume behind this force the existence of a conscious and intelligent mind. This mind is the matrix of all matter. Das Wesen der Materie [The Nature of Matter], speech at Florence, Italy (1944)

This was said almost 70 years ago, yet the general understanding is still very much that we are what can be touched, xrayed and observed under a microscope. But, even prominent scientists admit that we are much more, that there is a whole new dimension. This is for all of us to discover and by doing so we can capture the full meaning of life and finally get what the man of Galilee already knew well two thousand years ago.
