Sometimes people wonder what is the relationship between energy based therapies and traditional medicine based treatments.
Some people believe that there may be a conflict but the reality is that there is no conflict between the two: the energy therapies complement the medical treatments.
One of those energy therapies, the most ancient one, is Reiki. This Japanese word means 'universal energy'. It originated from Tibet over 2000 years and was made popular again in Japan in 1920.

I first studied Reiki in 1991, level I and II, then level III in 2001 and can say that it is a wonderful therapy. When hands are laid on our self or someone else, we can feel the energy circulate. It helps with relaxation in a wonderful and comfortable way. Anyone who feels the need to slow down and find more peace in their body and mind can benefit from it. Reiki can be done at a distance. In the world of energy, there is no distance. I have done many sessions in person and also long distance. If anyone is interested in to experience this energy therapy, please send me an email.
The following is a video on another wonderful therapy that is very similar to Reiki but that does not have a foreign sounding name: it's Healing Touch. It is all the same energy even if it is another modality. This one is also a favorite of nurses and caretakers.

Again, we see here that there is an increasing acceptance in the traditional medical setting of energy work. Since insurance companies save money as the recovery time is sped up, this also gives an incentive to spread this type of care to many other hospitals. This may be one of the rare time where "money is the bottom line" and "better, enhanced, more holistic care" go hand in hand.
I am not certified in Healing Touch but have done two seminars as part of continuing education for my massage therapy license and can testify that it is also a wonderful healing therapy.
A third one is Pranic Healing. Prana is the Sanskrit word for Ki or Chi, which means energy. This has also gained acceptance in the medical field.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahg6Ut1cyhA
I find it very encouraging that these healing energy modalities have entered the medical mainstream treatment programs thanks to all the nurses who demonstrated that it does help the patients with their recovery. If goes to show that drugs have their place but nothing can replace the loving, well intended human touch and energy. This cannot be bottled, it has to be delivered hands-on and everyone who experienced it loves it that way!
