I participated in a seminar on Healing Touch a few years ago, and there we learned how to figure how big someone's energy field is. As our hand gets closer to the other person, and we have the intent to find the outer wall of their field, at some point it feels like touching a thin layer of invisible skin. I bet anyone who tries will be successful at it, all we need is awareness and practice.
That field can extend quite a few feet around the body. You may have had the experience of coming to work to find an angry boss and doing everything you can to avoid him because that anger permeated his field and made everyone around him uncomfortable. We cannot help but being influenced by other people's field. Our energy fields exchange elements. This is the reason why we want to get away from negative people. Just like we are contaminated by smoke by being around people who smoke, we are contaminated by toxic emotions. In extreme cases, they may even make us sick to our stomach or give us sudden headaches. The energy field is closely related to the body and strongly influences it.
We can feel a friend's pain or concern when we meet them even before they explain what is going on in their life that has caused pain. It can be felt as a 'disturbance' in their energy field. Another example is someone approaching us for help in a parking lot and deep down, we feel every fiber of you body telling us to get away from that person, as if the ulterior motive can be picked up.
When there is coherence between the words and the energy, we feel that we can trust someone. When the coherence is not there we feel that they say one thing but mean another, therefore we may not trust and challenge by saying: "Are you really telling me the truth?"
Another word for coherence would be consistency, or being in agreement. When someone's words and the energy they project are in agreement, we believe them. On the other hand, when they are not, it is hard to take them seriously.
It may not be detectable with the eye , but neither is electricity or magnetism. The only way to detect those are through scientific instruments that can measure them.
A pioneer in this field of study of the energy field is Dr. Harold Burr (1889-1973
Those fields could be measured. Those measurements could reveal the health condition of a patient. Dr. Burr believed that doctors should be able to use them to diagnose illness before symptoms develop, and so would have a better chance of successful treatment.
An instrument of measurement was invented in 1964. It is called SQUID -A SQUID (for superconducting quantum interference device) is a very sensitive magnetometer used to measure extremely weak magnetic fields, based on superconducting loops . (from wikipedia)
SQUIDS are now used as detectors in MRIs.
It is interesting to notice that the human energy field now can be measured, therefore it 'does exist' in the eyes of the scientific world but healers of old knew of its existence all along. Many sacred texts depict vital energy as a luminous matrix within and extending around the physical body. In art, it has been depicted as a halo. In Hindu, Buddhist and Christian sacred art, sacred persons may be painted with a halo in the form of a circular glow. In Asian art, a mandorla is used: circles of light around the head and the whole body.
It is good to know that science has caught up with what sages of old have seen, felt and experienced. Being aware of our energy field helps us manage our life better as we strive to stay in positive, life-giving environment and being with loving, positive people. If we do have negative emotions permeating our field, it is good to know a way of releasing them so that peace and harmony may return to our energy field. We could even call it clement 'weather'. That does feel good, just like a nice day outside.
